When formulating a small business plan don't forget to make a plan to implement an online advertising campaign. It will cost you nothing and could prove to be the very thing that builds your business to higher levels of success.
People who start a small business in the traditional way, that is, opening up a store or a shop in a physical location are often so consumed with the details of stocking inventory, signing contracts, hiring help and designing their store layout that they often forget to include a very important aspect to doing business in the modern world--developing an online presence so that people who don't know they exist will be able to find them. Even if all you are planning to sell are hot dogs on a street corner somewhere in Peoria, you can create a website and an advertising campaign to get the word out to everyone in eyesight of your place--for free!
You just have to take some time to learn social media techniques to drive people to your site. You can upload videos to YouTube, write catchy ezine articles about the history of hotdogs, and get on Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about your business. You'll be surprised by the results if you do. You can even learn how to rank high on google's search engines so that people will find you when they type in key words that relate to your business. So, don't forget to invest some time learning about social media. You'll be glad you did.
